5 Reasons You Need to Get to Know Isaura

We all know the Algarve for its stunning coastline and fantastic beaches, but it’s beauty extends past the shoreline. Whether you’re here on holiday, or a permanent resident, you won’t regret getting out on the water and seeing a different side to this beautiful region.

Kit and Ali have shared some of their secrets with us about why Isaura do Mar is so special, and why after almost 30 years, they’re still in love with what they do.

5. Spectacular scenery

This vessel may have travelled the world, but it’s easy to see why it’s chosen the Algarve as home. We’ve all seen the famous iconic pictures of Ponta da Piedade, and Praia do Camilo, but sailing along this coastline brings a whole new perspective to these spectacular spots.

Guests on board have the option to appreciate the golden coastline from the deck, or the more adventurous among us can dive in for a swim. The morning tour includes a stop for swimming, whereas afternoon trips are sailing only – keep this in mind when making your booking.

4. It’s not as expensive as you think

It’s easy to jump to the conclusion that sailing is only for the wealthy, but one of the biggest misconceptions about boating is that it’s expensive. What most people don’t know is that you can hire a boat for less than what it costs to take a family of four to lunch and the cinema for the afternoon. We know where we’d rather be!

With prices starting at 35 euros per adult, and tours including complementary wine, beers and soft drinks – the price certainly won’t hold you back from jumping on board. Discounts available for children, see full pricing here.

3. Sailing isn’t just for sailors

When thinking of boat trips, one of the first things that springs to mind is the typical commercial charters. As a classical Schooner built in Malaysia in 1991, Isaura do Mar has something a bit different to offer those onboard. It’s definitely worth keeping an eye on the weather when thinking about booking your trip; “On Isaura,  when the wind is up, we offer guests the experience of real sailing. This is a boat which has sailed all the oceans of the world except the Pacific”.

If your idea of the perfect boat trip is more about some idyllic snorkelling, or relaxing, drink in hand, with your feet dangling over the water – then jump on board the morning tour which includes an anchored stop for swimming.

“Many of our guests come back every year to join us, often with new family members and friends in tow ! We put this down to the fact that we really want the visitors to have a great time. Kids get to steer the boat with the captain, help with the sails if they want to and learn how the boat operates…adults too!“

2. Escape from the crowd

The Algarve has really appeared on the ‘destinations to go’ map in recent years, which has been great for tourism, but not so great if you were looking for a quiet secluded spot on the beach in July or August. Aboard Isaura do Mar, you can escape the crowds and find some rare tranquility even in the height of peak season.

“So many boats in the marina are solely for mass tourism,  where you will find yourself on board with 40, 60 or 90 other passengers. Our boat is 23 metres long, (70 ft) but we limit ourselves to a maximum of 20 passengers so there is plenty of room to move about, sun bathe and relax.”

1. Sailing is good for the soul

There’s a reason many happy endings finish with ‘and they sailed off into the sunset’! Harnessing natures power and learning to work with the wind, rather than against it, is a truly empowering feeling. With the damage we’ve done to our oceans at the forefront of the media, what better way to reconnect than spending your day sailing along the Algarve coast.

If you’re ready to get to know Isaura, then get in touch with Kit and Ali to book a trip. Private charters are also available for those looking for something special, more details can be found here.
